Circe's Magical Potion

While you and the kids are making this magical potion craft, you may enjoy reading this magical myth to go along with it.

Long ago when gods and goddesses ruled the earth, there was a young goddess of magic named Circe. She was known for her vast knowledge of potions and herbs, and through the use of magical potions and her wand, she’d transform her enemies into animals. Because of her temper, she was banished to an island where she was to remain in solitude. One day, groups of ships led by king and explorer, Odysseus, landed on her island. Seeing a chance to practice her magic again, Circe invited Odysseus’s men to a feast. Odysseus decided to stay behind to watch the ships while his men attended the feast, gorging on delicacies and treats beyond their imaginations. However, Circe had poisoned the dishes, and all of Odysseus’s men turned into pigs for their gluttonous actions. Only one managed to escape and tell Odysseus. Odysseus was given a holy herb earlier in his travels that he used to protect himself from Circe’s spells. However, Odysseus also managed to befriend Circe and save his companions.
